My recipes and cooking style are mainly influenced by Asian and American flavors while also showcasing simple Filipino recipes that can be adapted to Paleo. I started this blog as a way for me to share recipes with family and friends while connecting with others who have provided daily doses of inspiration and motivation along my journey towards a Paleo lifestyle. After years of calorie counting and eating a low fat diet, I turned to Paleo on my quest to live healthier and eat real whole foods.
I read books/blogs/sites and educated myself further about Paleo to help me come up with my own modified approach that incorporates occasional white rice, grass-fed butter, safe starches and sometimes, grass-fed cheese. I found that rice, especially, gave me more endurance and energy when I worked out. Being Filipino, I know it’s just an integral part of my DNA. (I tried going really low carb awhile back and I almost passed out a couple of times while doing tabata drills at kettlebells class!)
In addition to my modified approach, I also gave myself some leverage to enjoy life by partaking in a gluten-free treat or two and making the best choices based on what is available at family gatherings and special occasions so I don’t feel left out and deprived. I do not strive for Paleo perfection, and this is the protocol that works for me. After reading and incorporating all the basics of what Paleo is, I tweaked it and created my own version. I highly recommend experimenting to find how you can make Paleo work for you. Clearly, it isn’t a one size fits all lifestyle!
Aside from blogging/cooking/cleaning/experimenting/etc. (whew) in the kitchen, I work as a full time software developer and part time professional freelance food photographer. I call Southern California my home and I enjoy spending my free time hanging out with my husband D and my fur baby Mochi, traveling off the beaten path to discover the unknown, swinging kettlebells at NDS and lifting heavy weights at the gym.
